We know choosing a videographer to film an online course is not a small decision. You’ll invest hours of time, hard work, money, and maybe even a piece of your identity into it. This course will give you the ability to impact far more people at one time than you ever could in person. While that’s incredibly exciting, our videographers know the pressure that comes with it.
One Forty Films is one of the very few video production companies who specialize in filming online courses. Our team of creatives have produced online course videos for educators in all kinds of industries. Through navigating this process many times, we’ve learned that creating a successful course is no small undertaking. Doing it the right way, with an experienced team and proper planning and execution, can be the difference between success and failure.
Here’s what you can expect the process to look like when you work with One Forty Films to film an online course.
Storyboard Meeting
Our engagement starts out with a storyboarding session. This is where we choose the location and aesthetic for the set. The setting, lighting, mood and even your attire all play an important role in the way your audience perceives you and the quality of the education.
Whether it’s your own home, a studio rental, or even out in the field, we want your set to compliment and enhance the content you are teaching.
In this stage of the planning cycle, we’ll also establish a timeline that works best for both parties. Establishing a timeline from the beginning of an engagement means we can work effectively to meet deadlines, streamline budget, and prepare marketing materials for the launch of the online course.
Script Review
At One Forty Films, we believe that a solid curriculum outline is key to the success of any online course. It’s so important, in fact, that our team insists on reviewing the script to make sure you are set up for success before filming. While we don’t take part in the curriculum writing process, our role is making sure you have solid introductions, transitions, and closing statements. We make sure that the order and structure of the course is sound so that your students can learn your content in the most efficient and effective way possible. We’ll point out anything that might be confusing or unnecessary and suggest alternatives. We’ll let you be the expert on the information and we’ll be the expert on ensuring that it’s being taught in a digestible manner. Communication is our strong suit and we’re happy to help.
Shoot Day
Next is the fun part – shoot day! While your team has been rehearsing and fine-tuning your online course material, One Forty Films has been handling the logistics of filming the content. We’ll bring our crew, establish and perfect set design, prepare props, and develop a plan of action to make the process as streamlined as possible.
We believe that each and every aspect of the set should feel purposeful. A well thought out set design can help you reach an audience and engage your consumers. We have experience in creating an optimal environment that is easy on the eye and intentional in its aesthetic.
We bring this same professional approach to supporting the cast as well. Our team understands that being on camera can feel nerve-racking for some. It’s a vulnerable experience that can be difficult to navigate for many clients. Our team is here to help in coaching and directing to ensure you appear confident and composed on screen. We have experience working with camera-shy clients to create a composed and relaxed environment on-set, and that energy is certainly reflected in the final cut.
Fun fact: Shoots can take anywhere from a single afternoon to an entire month! We’ve worked with past clients filming an online course for up to 15 days to collect all the footage we needed for their course. On average, it takes about 3-5 days to film an online course.
Editing
Congrats! You’ve made it through the tough part. Now it’s One Forty Film’s turn to bring your vision to life.
Our editing process is much like the rest of our work – collaborative. We edit in batches (15-20 videos at a time usually) and then our clients leave their feedback on each batch of videos. We find that working in small chunks like this ensures the final product is exactly how our clients envision their online course. Getting approval and feedback along the way also reduces the need for large, overarching edits to the theme and content.
In addition to the complete online course material, our videographers and editors include promotional material to the final package. Marketing an online course is the final piece of the puzzle, and it’s super important! We wouldn’t leave you hanging. We produce an engaging promotional video that is optimized for online advertising on Facebook and Google ads. We also have a close partnership with an online course launch expert that can assist in ongoing marketing efforts long after your film your online course.
